As the rescheduled 2015 general elections draw closer, chances of the Speaker, Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, towards clinching the senatorial seat of Okigwe zone, was further brightened last weekend, when Traditional Rulers in the six local government areas that make up the zone, gathered in their large numbers to endorse the aspiration of the All Progressives Congress candidate in the forthcoming elections.
The meeting which was held at the Ehime-Mbano council headquarters had in attendance, virtually all the Traditional Rulers from all the recognized autonomous communities in the area, with the sole agenda of analyzing the current political situation of the country, with a view to allowing the current wind of change, which according to them, is permeating to every nook and corner of the country get to Okigwe zone in particular.
They added that the meeting afforded them with the golden opportunity of ensuring that credible candidates, who understand the pains and needs of the zone, were selected and supported to shore up the needed development in the zone.
The Traditional Rulers, who were unanimous in their decision, maintained that Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, as a tested and trusted true son of Okigwe zone, has performed creditably, in his four-year stint as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, adding that his strong leadership qualities has helped in giving Okigwe zone a sense of belonging in the present administration .
In his remarks, the Traditional Ruler of Ogbor autonomous in Isiala Mbano, HRH Eze Matthew Oweni, who is also the Vice Chairman, Imo state Council of Traditional Rulers, noted that the Royal fathers resolved to support the Imo Speaker over the monumental achievements he recorded in the zone.
He maintained that the zone needed a man, who is most accessible and has acquired the requisite legislative experience which would enable him to hit the ground running to foster the rapid development urgently needed of the zone.
The Royal father who is also the Chairman, Okigwe Council of Ndi-eze, added that the APC candidate, in his quest to better the lots of the zone, had raised the bar in the attraction of various social amenities, even outside his primary constituency (Ihitte-Uboma) in ensuring that every community in the area benefitted from the present administration in the state.
