2018 AUC STC-YCS3 –AFRIMA to present 2-year report in Algeria

The All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, will present a two-year report of activities of the foremost awards event on the continent during the 3rd Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee Meeting on Youth, Culture and Sport (STC-YCS3) organised by the African Union Commission, AUC, in Algiers, Algeria from October 21 to 25, 2018 under the theme ‘The Role of African Youth in Building a Strong Culture towards Fighting Corruption”.

President and Executive Producer, AFRIMA, Mr. Mike Dada will be presenting the report spanning July 2016 to September 2018 to the meeting of experts’ which will have in attendance senior officials of the African Union, experts from the Ministry of Youths, Sports and Culture of African Union member states and various stakeholders in the respective sectors.

This is following the usual practice of briefing the AU on its previous activities, also its preparations and planning towards the upcoming 5th edition to be held in Accra, Ghana from November 21 to 24, 2018. This will include challenges, achievements and impact AFRIMA has made in the development of Youths in the arts and culture sector of the African economy, as well as the readiness and preparation of the host country, Republic of Ghana to make the 5th AFRIMA a huge success.

AUC STC-YCS3 will also include in-depth discussions on the sectors of youth, culture, and sports by participants and provide an opportunity for AU member states to discuss issues pertaining to the development of the youth, culture and sports sectors at the national, regional and continental level as well as establish synergies among the three sectors. Participants will arrive at resolutions towards the discussed issues, while decisions will be adopted for implementation by member states.

In a letter dated 19th September 2018 with reference number DSA/CUL/16/3494.18 addressed to AFRIMA and signed by the Acting Director for Social Affairs, AUC, Dr. Marie-Goretti Harakeye Ndayisaba, reads “…It is in this context that I’m writing to invite you to participate in this important Ministerial Meeting and to present the report of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) from July 2016 to September 2018 to the Experts’ Meeting, for consideration and adoption.

The STC is set up by the African Union and serves as an Organ of the African Union in accordance with Article 5(1)(g) of the AU Constitutive Act.

 

Other reports to be presented during the sessions will include; Presentation of the Progress Report of the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN), Presentation of the Report of the 5th Pan- African Cultural Congress (PACC5), Presentation of the Report of the 1st African Union Pan-African Writers’ Conference (AU-PAWC1), Presentation on the African Plan of Action for Youth Empowerment (APAYE), Presentation of the Matrix of Implementation of Decisions on Sport of the STC-YCS2, amongst others.

The 5th edition of AFRIMA-GHANA 2018 is in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Republic of Ghana. Its main awards ceremony tagged “Africa is Gold” will have its programme spanning four days of exhilarating activities which are: AFRIMA Welcome Soiree on November 21; Africa Music Business Summit (AMBS) on November 22 at the Ballroom, Kempinski Hotel, Accra; AFRIMA Music Village from 5.00 p.m. till dawn at the Independence Square, Accra also on November 22; a tour of the notable sites and landmarks in Ghana on November 23 followed by Nominees Party from 10.00 p.m; and the main awards ceremony at the Accra International Conference Centre, AICC, Ghana, by 7.30 p.m with a live-broadcast red carpet commencing at 4.30 p.m. The events will be broadcast live to 84 countries across the globe.

AFRIMA, in partnership with African Union, is a music property that recognizes and rewards the work and talent of myriad of African artists from the old to the new generation of musicians. AFRIMA also stimulates conversations among Africans and between Africa and the rest of the world about the potential of the creative arts for real humanizing enterprise on the continent contributing significantly to social cohesion, national, regional and continental integration as well as sustainable development in Africa.
