Gernot Rohr, coach of the Nigerian Super Eagles has reacted to his team’s loss to Algeria in the ongoing 2019 African Nations Cup.
Nigeria lost 2:1 to Algeria in a semi-final game played on Sunday, July 14.
A stunning free-kick by Riyad Mahrez saw the Desert Foxes moving on to the final.
Reacting to the loss in a post match press conference, Rohr, 66 said: “It was a big fight until the last minute, it was a wonderful match, I think my players wanted it to go to extra-time thinking Algeria were more tired.
“We scored an own goal, unlucky, but we have come back every time in this tournament and this time we came back on a penalty.
“But a wonderful free-kick from a football genius made the difference,” he said.
Nigeria will now face Tunisia in the third-place play-off on Wednesday, July 17.
