Following speculations in some quarters that the Executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has tipped Sir Jude Ejiogu and Chief Uche Nwosu as Governorship Candidate and running mate for the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Mr. Ikenna Onuoha has described the rumour as not only baseless and false, but a figment of the imagination of the peddlers.
Mr. Onuoha disclosed this in Owerri on Friday, October 17th, 2015 while responding to newspaper publications on the issue. The Media Aide maintained that in reacting to the story, there was need to correct the impression over the actions of some individuals and newspapers in the state who go about spreading shocking and unfounded stories that do not have any basis, with a view to deceiving the general public or causing confusion in the state for no just cause, saying that peddlers of such rumour were too cheap to have allowed their personal interests to hoodwink their sense of judgment.
The SGI Media Aide while thanking the newspapers for recognizing the clean records of Sir Jude Ejiogu in any position he finds himself, regretted that they decided to publish speculation that was neither here nor there, and advised them to leave the SGI alone to concentrate on his duties, as he has not made any secret or public statement concerning his political interest in 2019.
For the avoidance of doubt, “in as much as the newspapers did recognized the antecedent of Sir Jude Ejiogu as an individual, they should not have accepted and published mere speculation that the Governor has anointed the duo of Sir Ejiogu and Chief Nwosu for 2019 that is still very far from now”
“As one very close to Sir Jude Ejiogu, he has always made it clearly open that his only political ambition remains Governor Rochas Okorocha and how he can succeed in his efforts to deliver dividends of democracy to the good people of the state. So anyone spreading the rumour will be in a better position to explain, but all I know is that Sir Jude Ejiogu sees this reoccurring speculation as a distraction, and should be allowed to continue with his good works as Secretary to the Government of Imo State. He is comfortable with his current position”. Mr. Onuoha stated.
He therefore appealed to the general public to disregard the said story, as it was the handiwork of mischief makers to cause political unrest in the state among politicians eyeing the number one position, stressing that nothing of such ever exists.
