The day of reckoning is fast approaching for the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji.
The man who is being prosecuted alongside his aide Oyebode Atoyebi on an amended 54- count charge of money laundering running into N600 million by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), will soon know if he will walk away a free man or would serve criminal punishment for his crime.
The situation which Ikuforiji has found himself in is considered multifaceted, as his image is suffering by the day, while the outcome of the case in court has not given him any rest of mind despite assurances from several quarters.
As it is, Ikuforiji’s gubernatorial ambition is currently suffering, as every plan on the project is currently been place on hold, even as his chances of picking the party ticket is as slim as a Camel passing through the eye of a needle owing to the emergence of better candidates.
A close aide of the man who spoke with www.theoctopusnews.com in confidence said ” the situation is so bad that everything about the Speaker’s gubernatorial ambition is on a standstill.” The source further said while the likes of Akinwunmi Ambode and Senator Ganiyu Solomon have made their interest known and their posters are already littering Lagos, it is not the same for Mr Speaker who has to clear the mess he has found himself in first.
If you think that the situation is bad perhaps the fact that his stagnation has also left members of the house in confusion further explains Ikuforiji’s dilemma, as it is been said that anybody who promotes his own agenda without the Speaker sorting himself first is automatically considered an enemy of the man.
Presently, it is grumbling among some of the members of the house of assembly, as they can hardly promote an agenda without a thinking of the lash back implication finding it way back to them.
Ikuforiji, is been alleged of laundering millions of naira through honorarium, renovation of the Speaker’s residence and guest house as well as to the Speaker’s wife, Mayowa Ikuforiji.
As the day of finally judgement approaches only time will say what becomes of Adeyemi Ikuforiji and his seemingly ambitious desire.
