Leading African financial group, Access Holdings Plc, has donated ₦1 billion to support relief and recovery efforts in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, following devastating floods that have severely impacted the region.

In a statement seen by *The Octopus News*, the bank emphasized that the gesture highlights its commitment to community support through its banking subsidiary, Access Bank Plc.

During a visit to the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri, a delegation from Access Holdings, led by Acting Group Chief Executive Officer Bolaji Agbede, explained that the donation is aimed at providing both immediate and long-term relief.

The contribution includes ₦500 million in cash to support the state government’s ongoing response efforts, and an additional ₦500 million to restore critical infrastructure damaged by the floods. Essential food supplies will also be provided to ensure that the most vulnerable receive much-needed care.

Reaffirming Access Holdings’ commitment to supporting the people of Borno, Agbede emphasized the company’s dedication to positively impacting the communities it serves.

“At Access Holdings, we believe in positively impacting the communities we serve, not only as a financial institution but as a family that cares deeply for its people. We recognize the resilience of the people of Borno, and we are committed to providing the necessary support to help them overcome this difficult time. This donation is not just about the funds; it’s about providing immediate relief to affected families and individuals, while also contributing to the long-term recovery of local infrastructure,” Agbede said.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who received the Access Holdings delegation, expressed his gratitude for the donation and the company’s swift response to the crisis.

“We are deeply moved by the generosity and commitment shown by Access Holdings and Access Bank during this challenging time. This ₦1 billion donation will be judiciously utilized to impact the lives of those affected by the disaster. The restoration of our hospitals and essential services will strengthen our resilience, while the food relief will bring immediate comfort to families in distress. This support highlights the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector in improving the lives of local communities,” Zulum said.
