Friends, family and associates gathered on Friday, March 6, as businessman and philanthropist, Molade Okoya-Thomas, was paid his last respect.
A five-day programme eventually led to the burial of Okoya-Thomas at Vaults and Gardens after a funeral service at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos Island, Lagos.
Programmes leading to the burial of Okoya-Thomas included a Lagos State University students’ organised candle light procession and valedictory session, a service of songs at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club and a Lagos State Government organised tributes in his honour at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. Others included another evening of tributes and service of songs for the deceased at Trinity House, Zion Centre, Victoria Island, a wake-keep at Landmark Centre, Victoria Island and two separate lying in state at his residence and at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
Okoya-Thomas died on Saturday, February 1, at the age of 79. Prior to his death, there had been talks of a colourful and carnival-like party to celebrate his 80th birthday.
