Politician, Doyin Okupe has stated that if not for the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu-led administration, Nigerians would be buying Dollars for more than N1,700 and fuel above N1,000.
The former Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign council, stated this while speaking on Arise TV.
Okupe said that Tinubu has made reforms that will save Nigeria from making the value of the Naira fall and become useless like the Zimbabwean dollar.
According to him, the Buhari-led administration printed monies just to keep the economy go by but that this was harmful as it left Nigerians in a more precarious state. Okupe said the Tinubu administration came into power and chose not to continue with the window-dressing of the Buhari administration and decided to take painful reforms that will “better the lives of Nigerians.”
“I heard people complain that the dollar is N1,700; it could have been worse, it could have been N17,000. That fuel is N1,000; it could have been worse; it could have been N3,000 or N4,000 per liter if these reforms had not been in place and has checked the escalating hyperinflation in which we entered into. It is wholesomely unfair and I am almost tempted to say wicked for anybody to judge this administration after eighteen months,” he said.
