In the days of the now defunct Heritage Bank Plc, two personalities featured prominently.
Though in different capacity and periods, there is hardly any way to tell the history of the financial institution without mentioning these men, either for negative or positive reasons.
Then, while Fela Ibidapo held sway as the Group Head, Corporate Communications, Akin George-Taylor would later work at the bank as its Chief Executive Office and Managing Director as it drew close to its end.
As the boss of the Corporate Communications department, Ibidapo had little irons in the fire that could positively affect the day-to-day working of the financial institution, and so he basically played his role till was swept aside by the politics of the financial institution.
At the first instance of his displacement, Ibidapo returned to his office, but not the second time, as he was replaced by Ozena Utulu.
With Ozena, the current Head, Corporate Communications at Greenwich Merchant Bank taking over what was Ibidapo’s playground, the bearded man simply faded into oblivion in the bank despite still working there.
For George-Taylor, the story is no different. Singled out as the man who would take a drowning Heritage Bank out of its hellhole, when he joined the bank as Acting Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer on September 12, 2022, George-Taylor succeeded Ifie Sekibo, as MD/CEO following Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) approval, but hardly performed any wonder.
Perhaps he lost his Midas touch once in the employ of the bank, George-Taylor struggled to manage the financial institution till it was unceremoniously rested over it’s liquidity ratio challenges.
During his reign, there were allegations of boardroom intrigues, and all that. However, one fact that remained clear for all to see was that George-Taylor failed to activate the lender’s next phase of transformation not to talk of achieving it. Heritage Bank without Sekibo was comatose and just couldn’t fly.
Interestingly, since the financial institution was rested, neither Ibidapo nor George-Taylor have been spotted in circulation, leading to questions about their whereabouts and what they are up to.
