Aje Festival which holds annually in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State has become a renowned festival in Nigeria.
Since Princess (Dr.) Toyin Kolade became the face of the festival, it has been growing from height to height, becoming a calendar program in Osun State.
It is the degree of success recorded by the cultural event held in celebration of ‘Aje’, the deity of wealth, market profitability and economic prosperity that has seen it becoming highly anticipated.
Ahead of the this year’s edition expected to take place sometime between February and March 2025, there have been questions as to what this year’s festival which celebrates and enlightens the people about the spirit of wealth and prosperity will look like.
Interestingly, with barely months to the festival, there has hardly been any awareness regarding the 2025 edition.
Past editions of the colourful event have featured attractions such as the Aje Heritage and Economic Summit, the Aje Music Fiesta, Aje Movie Screening as well as Aje Festival Exhibition.
In 2024, the grand finale of the festival held on Monday, February 26th, concluding the main part of the festival held in three sessions; with the first being a traditional procession of Aje Olokun by the women of Woye Asiri from Ilero, Osangangan Obamakin’s compound to pay traditional obeisance to the Ooni at the Ile-Oodua Palace, from where they will proceed to the Aje Temple located right inside ancient Ejigbomekun market also known as Oja Ife.
The Woye Asiri women will thereafter leave the Aje Temple for the Yeyemolu Sacred Well Water located within the Ooni’s Palace for further spiritual rites.
The height of the iconic procession of Aje groups would be led by the Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife in company of members of the Ife Traditional Council, monarchs across the world and the Iyalaje Oodua, Princess Kolade, Coordinator and Global Ambassador of the Aje Festival.
