The negative portrayal of the Fulani people across Nigeria has been criticised by the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Governor Yusuf described such portrayal as unwarranted and unjustified.

Speaking during a visit from the Kano chapter of Tabital Fulaku International, the governor, represented by his Deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the organization in its mission to unite the Fulani community nationwide.

Gwarzo emphasized the vital role of Fulani leaders in guiding younger generations, urging them to remain steadfast in their leadership and support.

“The Fulani community has consistently contributed to Nigeria’s development, producing distinguished political leaders, academics, technocrats, legal experts, and security chiefs. Remarkably, a Fulani man currently holds the position of National Security Adviser,” Gwarzo stated.

Expressing concern over media portrayals of the Fulani, Gwarzo noted their substantial contributions to Nigeria’s agricultural and economic sectors.

“It is disheartening that some sections of the media tarnish their image. The Fulani have significantly contributed to agriculture and other key sectors. They are the herders who sustain our economy. Such negative portrayals are unwarranted,” he said.

He called on the Federal Government and security agencies to address the misrepresentation of the Fulani’s history and contributions. Gwarzo also urged Fulani associations across Nigeria to unite and work collaboratively to safeguard their rights and privileges.

“I advise you to collaborate with stakeholders to preserve and enhance the Fulani’s image,” he concluded, stressing the need for a more inclusive and respectful media narrative that acknowledges the Fulani’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s development.

This is why they said those leaders in the North are dumb. Why are they not misrepresenting Igbo or Yoruba or Hausa or Kanuri or Tivi etc why is it that it’s foolani they are misrepresenting? Did you see any other tribes carrying arms and ammunition to pursue their request from Govt or any tribe killing other tribes and destroying their means of livelihood because they want everybody to be selling Cows and cattles in Nigeria. As long as foolanis don’t see the existence of others as important as theirs they also must receive what they’re sowing. With the same measure they are kidnapping and killing farmers and people in Kaduna, Zamfara, Kastina, Benue, Pleatue etc they must receive their own too. Till they understand that all Nigerians have right to live and flourish in their ancestral lands. Foolanis will not rest.
