Several female celebrities in Nigeria have taken to their social media accounts to slam singer 2face Idibia for announcing the end of his marriage to Annie Macaulay and an impending divorce on social media.
The women include actress Mary Remmy Njoku, media personality; Toke Makinwa and Ifedayo Agoro, founder of Diary Of A Naija Girl (DANG), a digital storytelling platform with a mission to elevate the voices of women, and one of the largest communities for women of colour.
Recall that 2face had taken to his social media page on Instagram on Sunday, January 27, to announce that his marriage to Annie Macaulay had come to an end. He also added that they were getting divorced soon.
“Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long… Annie Macaulay and I have been separated for a while now and have currently filed for divorce. I will grant a press release soon to say my story, not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life, but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offense. Stay blessed my people. I love you all,” the post read.
Minutes later, in a new post, 2face blamed hackers for the initial post which had been taken down.
“My Instagram account has been hacked, efforts are being carried out to take back control. #OneLove!”
However, in a shocking turn of events, the ‘Smile’ singer released a video stating categorically that he was responsible for the initial divorce announcement post on his Instagram page, adding that he said what he said. “Na me talk wetin I talk,” the singer said in the video.
Reacting to the video and the whole social media drama, Makinwa came for 2face slamming him for bringing such a sensitive matter to social media.
Makinwa wrote;
“This is wrong on all levels and you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing this here. Bring it on, if you think she’s alone let me tell you here that you’ll have to f!ght all of us”
She called on other women to stand up in defence of Annie, and they heeded her.
Another female celebrity who has also slammed 2face is actress Mary Remmy Njoku.
Njoku who described 2face’s action as humiliating, added that the “Amaka” singer humiliated Annie at her lowest time.
According to her, 2face took the wrong time to announce the breakup and impending divorce, adding that it should not have been at a time when Annie was receiving heat on social media following her outing in the new season of a reality TV show.
In her post, Njoku said that in all that has happened, 2face should just ensure that Annie is healthy and that when the time comes, she and other sisters-in-law will come out to ask him questions.
Aside from the duo of Makinwa and Njoku, another person who has attacked 2face for his action is Ifedayo Agoro, the founder of DANG.
Agoro blasted 2face for nailing Annie at a time when the public was picking her apart over her appearance at the Young Famous and African reality show.
The businesswoman also urged women to put themselves first when loving a man because the men would easily discard them.
“First they groom you, then you lose yourself and then they dump you. I am sooo angry! l never involve myself with things like this but this is a disgusting behaviour by this man.
“In the time when this woman is being bashed, you had to say this? Knowing
you constantly humiliated her publicly since I was 18 years old? Why now? Why heap more fire on her reputation?
“Never ever ever choose a man over yourself No one is INDISPENSABLE! Gosh!,” she wrote:
