The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), led by its Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, hosted a delegation from Samsung Heavy Industries Nigeria (SHIN) on Friday. The SHIN team was led by its newly appointed Managing Director, Mr. Jin Lee.

Discussions at the meeting, held at the Board’s Lagos liaison office, focused on SHIN’s in-country capabilities, including heavy fabrication and FPSO integration at the SHI-MCI Free Zone in Tarkwa Bay, Lagos. The company sought the Board’s support in attracting new projects to its facility, emphasizing its experience in executing major oil and gas projects. SHIN also reaffirmed its commitment to the Federal Government’s drive to accelerate crude oil production and create employment opportunities for Nigerians.

The delegation reminded the Executive Secretary of SHIN’s key role in TotalEnergies’ Egina deepwater project, particularly the in-country execution of critical scopes, including the partial integration of the Egina FPSO in 2017 and 2018. This project remains a benchmark for local content success in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

However, Lee expressed concern that since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which significantly disrupted oil industry operations, the facility has not undertaken any major projects. To expand its market reach, SHIN requested NCDMB’s assistance in connecting with the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) and other international clients. This, they believe, would help position Nigeria as a hub for exporting oil and gas services across Africa.

Additionally, SHIN announced plans to diversify into the renewable energy sector by manufacturing floating foundations and related infrastructure for wind farms and other renewable energy projects. This move aligns with efforts to support Nigeria’s energy transition and sustainability goals.

Welcoming the new Managing Director, Engr. Ogbe assured SHIN of the Board’s continued support in line with its mandate to promote local participation in critical oil and gas operations. He encouraged SHIN to collaborate with indigenous service companies to build capacity and maximize job creation within the economy.

Ogbe further pledged to introduce SHIN to APPO and other international organizations in line with NCDMB’s 10-year Strategic Roadmap, which emphasizes sectoral and regional linkages to create global opportunities for Nigerian companies with proven capabilities.

He also assured SHIN that the Board, alongside representatives from international and indigenous oil and gas operators, would visit the company’s facilities to assess their capacities and facilitate potential collaborations.
