The National Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Owerri, Imo state, last week concluded the hearing session of Rt.Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu’s petition challenging the election of Athan Achonu as Senator representing Imo North Senatorial district, after the Independent National Electoral Commission’s only witness, Emeka Okike, admitted to submitting the Ehime Mbano results on the 30th of march, days after Athan Achonu, was declared winner of the said election by Prof Remi Uche.

The tribunal which is on its last stretch, after sitting for more than 90 days, has gotten to a stage where all witnesses have rounded off their evidence. The All Progressive Congress APC, its candidate, Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, its candidate, Athan Achonu and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, have all taken their turns to present witnesses before the tribunal.

As anticipated, Uwajumogu and APC brought witnesses to show that the election was a sham, while, Achonu, PDP and INEC witnesses where interesting and full of drama, as almost all the defence witnesses either refused to read documents, feigning poor sight or pretended to have lost their memory, except the INEC witness who, while undergoing cross –examination, revealed that the Ehime Mbano, results were brought in on the 30th of march 2015, while the PDP candidate, Athan Achonu was declared winner of the said election on the late hours of the 28 march 2015.

While the PDP and INEC ‘s main task when the tribunal resumes for addresses on Monday, will be to ‘’rubbish’’ evidence by Uwajumogu, his witnesses and INEC, the tribunal has given all parties till Sunday to file, serve and reply all documents.
