Party lovers and socialites alike have eventually given up on Yemisi Awe and Lara Akinsanya, two friends who used to be like peas in a pod, but have now gone their separate ways.
On the social scene, Awe needs no introduction. However, for those who might mistake her for someone else, she is the brain behind Paragon Place and is also the wife of ex-banker and former Island Club chairman, Akeem Awe.
Akinsanya, on the other hand, is married to a medical doctor and she is also very popular as the chief executive officer of celebrity boutique, Affordable.
Married to successful men, these duos blended naturally, as they were always together attending parties both within and outside Nigeria.
So good was their friendship then that many envied them, as they even both own exotic shops in the popular Odua Market in Ojota, Lagos State.
While Akinsanya is known for her business interest in lace materials, Awe sells designer shoes, purses and bags.
In 2011, when Awe clocked 50, Akinsanya was in charge of the Aso Ebi and was the planner of the event.
That was how close the two were until things fell apart between them.
www.theoctopusnews.com learnt that trouble started from a minor argument at a party. So serious is the situation now that they avoid each other like a plague and visiting each other’s shop as they used to do has stopped.
We were also informed that efforts by their friends to reconcile them have proved futile, as they seem to have decided to end their friendship. Not even Queen Ayo Balogun, the popular Juju musician, who is their mutual friend, has been able to reconcile them.
In October 2012, when Akinsanya celebrated her 50th birthday, Awe was conspicuously absent although some of her friends said she was on a business trip to America.
The confirmation that the two would probably not see eye-to-eye again came early this year, when Awe hosted few friends and family to the opening of her new shop on Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos State, and Akinsanya was again absent, despite some people saying she might make a cameo appearance.
Reliable sources told us that Awe chose to open the new shop so as to completely avoid her old friend who is still a regular caller at the Odua Market Shop. Indeed there is flattery in friendship.
