The Chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dino Melaye, is again in the eye of the storm, after exchanging verbal vitriols with fellow Senator Oluremi Tinubu and wife of strongman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Keyamo has been quoted as threatening to beat up the two-term senator and even impregnate her, boasting that nothing will happen afterwards.
The drama of the clash of Remi Tinubu with Melaye has again brought to the fore the enfante terrible of a violent politician and vitriolic critic of persons who might be opposed to his position on any issues.
Melaye cuts different images to different people.
To some, he is a patriot and loyalist, while to others he is nothing but a rascal.
Over time, the latter seems to be gaining more prominence than the former.
Melaye has been involved in sundry cases that have painted him in negative light leaving many wondering whether he cares about his public image.
Many will not forget in a hurry how the man who is currently a Senator in the 8th Assembly held the House of Representatives to ransom when Patricia Olubunmi Foluke Etteh was Speaker.
The drama that saw him practically carried out of the hallowed chamber during one of his disturbances in tattered clothing is not an image worthy of praises.
In search for experience in the make believe world popular as Nollywood, Melaye teamed up with Bisi Ibidapo-Obey in an amorous relationship.
What started as a silent romance soon became a war of words then a paternity scandal. Before anyone could say Jack Sparrow, Melaye had allegedly impregnated the actress. According to Ibidapo-Obey, he impregnated her and refused to take responsibility.
Ibidapo-Obey didn’t waste any time at all, as she hit the streets telling every one who cared to listen that she had been setup by her colleague, Lola Alao, who introduced her to Melaye.
According to her, Melaye was a gentleman on the night they met. The actress was also quoted saying that he stopped picking her call when she told him that she was pregnant for him. For months, the duo haggled over who was responsible for the pregnancy before Ibidapo-Obey eventually decided to take care of her child, having found another lover. Today, the product of their dalliance is three years old.
Melaye’s troubles even reached his home front, as he allegedly turned his wife Tokunbo Fabiyi into a punching bag.
In 2014, Melaye allegedly beat Tokunboi to a pulp, a situation which landed the woman in hospital.
When Tokunbo revealed the truth about her husband, she described him as a wife-beater.
Bad as it maybe, Dino Melaye was said to beat his wife up anytime they ended up arguing.
In 2005, Melaye allegedly beat up his wife to the extent that she was rushed to a certain Zanlin Hospital to be treated for head injury. He was said to have allegedly hit her with an iron rod. As if that was not bad enough, in October 2010, Tokunbo was rushed to Wuse General Hospital by the Police after she ran in her bloodied nightgown with deep cuts on her arms.
A report said Melaye used a plank to flog her aiming for the head, but she used her arms to protect herself and ended up with a deep cut that needed emergency attention.
On September 25, 2013, Tokunbo and Melaye were said to have had an argument and he pulled a gun to her head. It was after this point that the woman decided that she had had enough and filled for divorce. Interestingly, Melaye took to twitter to say thus, “I am grateful to God for a turbulent phase in my life has finally come to a long awaited end.”
Surprisingly, the allegations against Melaye were confirmed by Tokunbo’s parent who sent a warning letter to Melaye over his domestic abuse of their daughter in a case they allegedly filed.
However, a certain Toyin Akande (Esq), who described herself as a family friend and lawyer denied the allegations in a publication on Abusidiqu.com.
Interestingly, Tokunbo is not the only wife to have walked out on Melaye, as less than six months after introducing Alero Falope as his new wife the woman also took a walk out of his life.
Melaye introduced Falope as his new wife in January 2014, barely two weeks after Tokunbo moved out of his house. However, in July of the same year, less than seven months into the marriage, the woman was said to have walked out of the marriage citing physical abuse, as motive for divorce.
The decision by Falope to walk out of the marriage was confirmed by her brother who took to his Twitter handle to announce that his sister had moved out of Melaye’s house because she could no longer bear the beating.
Melaye’s comments to those who have criticised him about his flashy lifestyle and cars remain legendary. However, his latest face-off with Senator Oluremi Tinubu is what is currently trending.
Melaye is presently in the eye of the storm following allegations that he threatened to beat up and impregnate his colleague, Senator Remi Tinubu during a close door session.
As expected, he has come under serious attacks, as those who have reacted to the allegation have concluded that he is peculiar with beating up women.
