The saying, “Show me your friend and I will tell you who are,” is quite popular.
In this case, it seems the closest saying to describe the situation that took place on Sunday, April 14, at Ruby Garden, Lekki, Lagos State, venue of the prestigious Encomium Black and White Ball.
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, who had been invited to the event, sent a representative in person of one Mrs. Folami, her bosom friend, as she could not attend.
Drama, however, ensued when the wife of the Lagos State governor was presented with the award for the Most Adorable First Lady and her representative stepped out to collect it on her behalf.
Had she simply received the plaque and returned to her seat, it would have been a wonderful evening. However, Mrs. Folami took her time on stage, as she told the organisers of the event she had been abandoned at her table for hours without anybody giving her attention.
Even when some notable captains of industries who were on stage with her attempted to douse her temper, reassuring her that they had not taken the wife of the governor for granted, the representative made matters worse, as she threatened to report the manner in which she was treated to the person who sent her.
Rather than enjoy the sympathy of the crowd, Mrs. Folami was practically booed out of stage, as people wondered why the governor’s wife sent such an uncultured person to represent her at such an elitist event.
