Davido has established himself as one of Nigeria’s most consistent artistes.
Over the years, the DMW singer has released several hit songs and successful albums, with several sold out concerts to his credit.
However, one act which is fast becoming synonymous with him is his penchant for cancelling already slatted shows, concerts and tours.
There seems to be no guarantee that Davido will be at any event either paid or unpaid, as in recent years he has cancelled several shows at the last minute.
The most recent happened when he called off a show in Nairobi, Kenya. The singer blamed flight issues for his action.
On social media, he wrote ”Nairobi, I can’t be with you guys tonight. Flight issues out of my control, we tried to find a solution but no luck. A new date will be announced soon.”
Apart from this cancellation, Davido is also known to have cancelled other shows including a tour of America, for which he hinged on the need to participate in the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) programme.
In October 2017, he disappointed fans when he failed to show up for a show slatted for the stage of the New Africa Shrine where he was supposed to perform for his fans during the Felabration celebration. According to him, it was necessary to honour his dead friend Olugbemiga Abiodun popular as DJ Olu. Almost the same time, the singer pulled the plug off another show meant for Zimbabwe following the death of another friend Tagbo Umeike. Davido revealed that he had to cancel the show following his invitation by the police to help them in the investigation of Tagbo’s death.
Other shows that the singer has also pulled out from at the eleventh hour include the ‘Fact Durban Rock’ concert which was supposed to hold in South Africa on December, 31 2016.
October 21, 2017, was supposed to see Davido perform at the National Theatre in Accra. He also cancelled the show which was supposed to be a part of his 2017 30 Billion African Tour following a fall out with Becca.
Indeed, the ‘Assurance’ singer is fast becoming synonymous with cancelling shows. Until he is in your face, no show promoter is assured of his turning up to perform.
