PDP’s Performance In Bayelsa State Is Below Average-Senator Diri

Senator Douye Diri, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has stated that the party has not performed well in the state
According to him, the PDP has performed below average in the past 20 years it had controlled power in the state.
Senator Diri said this while responding to a questions during a media interaction in Yenagoa.
He blamed the poor state of development in Bayelsa to the inability of certain administrations under the PDP to move the state forward.
“First, yes, we are not satisfied with what has come into Bayelsa and the level of development we have seen. If we are satisfied, then there will be no need for me to come and contest this election.
“As a party, even on self-examination, we know that within the 20 years there were certain regimes that didn’t do well as a party. And so, that was the reason some persons even left government to go and join the opposition. And that was the reason when the government of Seriake Dickson came, we called it a government of restoration.
“Simply to answer you, we are not very satisfied with the performance of our party for 20 years; it’s not very satisfactory. Not very satisfactory.”
However, he said that those who knew the rural status of Yenagoa before the creation of Bayelsa State on October 1, 1996, would realise that the party had contributed immensely to the transformation of the state capital.
“But again, let us look at it from the other side. For those of you who knew old Yenagoa Local Government Area, mark my words, I said not very satisfied, I qualified it; if you knew the old bloc of Kolokuma/Opokuma, Southern Ijaw and Yenagoa, and particularly Yenagoa, I’m also satisfied to tell you that a whole lot of development has taken place in Yenagoa.
“That the successive governments of PDP have contributed so much to the development of Yenagoa as our state capital.
“Comparatively to what you know as the old Yenagoa Local Government, this was a place where you had bushes binding one community from another. This was a place where you had very few development. The road was one tiny road-just one tiny road. And you remember at the creation (of Bayelsa), people were abusing us for having just one road.
“But today, several roads have been added even though we are not there yet. That’s why I said we are not very satisfied.”
