Newly-elected Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Victor Edoror, has stated that there are no plans to impeach the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Edoror, stated this while debunking the speculation which has been making the rounds for days.
There had been reports that the inauguration of the new members and subsequent emergence of the new speaker on Thursday, August 6, was part of a grant plot to impeach the Edo state governor.
However, reacting to the speculation, the new Speaker said that the priority of the House under his leadership will be to focus on legislative duties, and not the impeachment of any member of the executive, apparently referring to Obaseki.
Edoror also called for unity among the members, adding that there was no victor, no vanquished.
In a related event, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state has denied involvement in the police’s takeover of the state’s House of Assembly on Thursday, August 6.
John Mayaki, APC Media Campaign Council in Edo in a statement on Thursday said that his party does not control the police.
He stated this while reacting to the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that the APC was responsible for the siege.
