Voting in the Edo State gubernatorial election has come to an end with counting commencing.
According to the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) voting ended at 2:30pm.
14 governorship candidates participated in the election, however, the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are the top contenders.
Despite having 1.72 million eligible voters in the election, only 483,796 were eligible to vote. The others were disenfranchised for not collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The PDP has won the election in Uhunmwode LGA, Ward 07, Isi North, PU – 004, Ohe Ozua Primary School. The incumbent governor scored 96 votes to defeat his closest rival who polled 65.

The result was announced by INEC officials after ballot counting at the polling unit.
Again, the incumbent governor Obaseki defeated Ize-Iyamu at Esan north east LGA, Uelen/Okugbe (Ward 04), Okpujie Primary School 3 (PU 004).
The PDP added PU010, Idunmwongo P/S, Idunmwongo, Ugbeka Ward, Orhionmwon LGA to its winning streak.
