‘Mr. Somebody’ is a popular name in the Nigerian music industry. It is synonymous with a famous Nigeria musician based in America, Yinka Rythmz. Over the years, he has garnered acclaim with his works. The multiple award-winning artiste and ‘Atolase of Texas’ boast of a rich musical history as the son of legendary Fuji artiste, Alhaji Rasheed Adio popular as ‘Second Barrister’. His father was the first Fuji artiste to be signed by King Sunny Ade into his label Sigma Disc Records. ‘Second Barrister’ was also the only Fuji artiste in KSA’s award-winning album ‘The Way Forward.’ ‘Mr. Somebody’ recently spoke with us from his base in America. He spoke on his forthcoming multi-million Naira EP titled ‘More Than Somebody,’ while dwelling on the inspiration behind his unique musical short movie produced and directed by Akin Alabi films.
You have been working on a project for a while; can you update us on the progress you have made thus far?
It’s a music project titled ‘More Than Somebody’. It’s an extension of my personality, the part of me that I have been working on, the new offering. The project is coming on the imprint of Rashan Music International.
There is no doubt that this project is of international standard, how much are you investing in it?
It is a project that we are still working on, so it is difficult to put a specific figure to it, but I can tell you that it’s a multi-million Naira project.
Knowing that it is highly anticipated, can you tell us more about it?
Like I said earlier, it is titled ‘More Than Somebody’ or you can simply call it ‘MTS,’ of course, that is the acronym for the title of the EP. It is produced by OSM Production.
You are also releasing a short movie, tell us about that too
That is also true. It is part of the projects I am working on. That which you just spoke about is a musical short movie produced and directed by the legendary Akin Alabi films. The project is being recorded in Nigeria and USA, featuring quite a numbers of legendary poets, Hip hop and RnB artistes, while the visual aspect is being shot at major tourist locations in Nigeria, Finland and Washington DC.
That is mind-blowing, why did you pick those locations?
I can’t spill too much, but the reason for the three major significant locations will be revealed when this wonderful project that focuses on my originality, perspective as an entertainer, as a husband, man, a businessman, and as a father is delivered. I hope my fans and friends all over the world will be satisfied with it when it is released.
There is no doubt that this project means a lot to you, when is it expected to drop?
Hopefully, it will drop in early 2021. I am talking about the spring season to be precise.
What motivated the title of the EP, ‘More Than Somebody?’
It is all about transition, growth. I was born by ‘Mr. Somebody’. Then I became ‘Omo Somebody’. ‘Omo Somebody’ was tested with a lot of responsibilities and some atrocities of life which made him grow into ‘Mr. Somebody’. Through the journey of life, there have been many things I have had to overcome which made me realise that I’m not just a regular person. I’m not just ‘Somebody’. I am ‘More Than Somebody.
The audio recording in two countries, video in three, are you sure of getting back all the money you are investing in this project?
The interesting thing about this project is that it is not targeting music lovers alone. The project is also targeting movie and cinema lovers. As we speak, the Marketing Director of Rashan Music International and his team are busy working on plans to introduce new elements that will guarantee the success of this project; the MTS project is well thought out and planned. It is a money-back project.
While you don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet, can you tell us about the RnB artistes on this project?
That is a secret. I don’t want to divulge it. It’s the suspense of the project, but you can be assured that they are A-list names.
