History has been made in the books of the World Trade Oganisation (WTO), as it has recorded its first female Director General.
This is as Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, emerged winner of the highly competitive election.
Okonjo-Iweala polled 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat her opponent, South Korea’s trade minister at the final stage of the race.
With this latest feat, she has broken many records, including becoming the first African to occupy the office at the WTO DG.
The official announcement is expected to be made by the WTO at 3pm Nigerian time.
