The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to comment made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that its candidates for the Lagos East senatorial and House of Assembly would emerge victorious in the December 5, bye-elections in the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 30, by the spokesman of APC in Lagos State, Seye Oladejo, the party described PDP leaders as jesters and wishful thinkers.
Oladejo said the PDP’s forecast to win the election could only happen in their dream, challenging the party to name the organizers of the purported poll.
The spokesperson of the APC in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, said that nothing would stop the victory of the party in the Lagos East senatorial by and House of Assembly by-election.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to the nightmarish forecast of an out of character victory by a faceless and nameless opinion poll organizers of PDP victory in the rescheduled Lagos East Senatorial by-election.
“The fact that they couldn’t name the poll organizers can best be described as the stuff of fiction and hallucination typical of an opposition party that is fast going into extinction. However, we’re not taken aback by the sudden last-minute blabbing in response to its campaign that has gone largely comatose in the past few days.”
Oladejo said that the fact that the background, credentials and integrity of the PDP’s senatorial candidate has been subject to public scrutiny would naturally elicit face-saving measures. He also noted that it remains bad manners for the PDP to award itself marks in a contest that is still days ahead.
The APC spokesman maintained that the senatorial candidate of the party, Tokunbo Abiru, would defeat his opponent at the poll, saying that the former Polaris boss represents a refreshing breath of politics with a difference.
He further stated: “Our candidate, Tokunbo Abiru, remains the candidate to beat. He represents a refreshing breath of politics with a difference. Lagos East deserves a Senator with an impeccable character, unquestionable credentials, and a rare combination of private and public sector experience.
“While we acknowledge the incredible diligence of Gbadamosi in the social media, he will do well to note for future escapades that elections are won by reaching out to the real people in the homesteads, market places, community leaders, youth organizations.”
Oladejo, however, said the APC remains implicitly confident of victory, stressing that it awaits the traditional lamentation by PDP after the poll.
