A Federal High Court in Kano State has acquitted a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali of alleged corruption.
Wali was facing charges of corruption from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs under the Jonathan administration. Wali was accused of allegedly receiving N950m campaign funds from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2015 presidential election.
The anti-graft agency argued that the accused contravened Section 1 of the Money Laundering Provision Act 2011 when he allegedly received the campaign funds from the party.
However, the court on Friday, December 11, dismissed the charges against the former minister. The judge, Lewis Allagoa ruled that the anti-graft agency failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The EFCC through its counsel, Cosmos Ogwu, said it will study the judgment before deciding the next step to take.
