Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, has revealed why he orchestrated the campaign to sack Fulani herdsmen from Igangan, Oyo State.
Speaking during an interview, Igboho said a lot of people had asked him why he was getting involved in an issue that is not his business when he was not a politician. He revealed that he had been forced to tell them that the killing of Yoruba people was his business being a Yoruba man.
He said when a government does not do what the people who elect it expect, and it cannot guarantee there, they will rise to protect themselves.
Speaking on the order he gave to Fulani to vacate Igangan, he said that he didn’t just order the Fulani herdsmen to leave the community, as he had the backing of several monarchs who had become fed up with the situation.
Igboho blamed the Fulani herdsmen for the killing of Dr. Fatai, adding that having invested in farming his crops ruined by herdsmen, adding that he was tied up and machete to death by the herdsmen when he went to report to the Seriki Fulani.
Igboho said that there were several other people who had received the same treatment from the herdsmen, adding that the Fulani herdsmen had even resorted to kidnapping, receiving a minimum of seven million Naira as ransom.
He said that his reaction to sack the herdsmen was borne out of the fact that while he might have people protecting him, what becomes of those who don’t.
He revealed this was the reason he visited the Seriki Fulani only to be attacked with guns.
