The high spate of criminal herdsmen activities in Nigeria has seen state governments in the southeast taking bold decisions.
To this end, the Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the state government to launch the state’s security network, Amotekun.
The lawmakers passed the resolution after raising concerns over the rising spate of insecurity occasioned by cases of kidnappings, herdsmen crisis, banditry, among others.
The passage of the resolution follows a motion moved by the majority leader, Yusuf Sherif.
The plenary was presided over by the Speaker of the house, Olakunle Oluomo.
The legislators complained about the nefarious activities of some herdsmen accused of engaging in kidnapping and destruction of farmlands under the guise of open grazing for their herds of cattle.
Speaker Oluomo also noted that the State Assembly would soon convey a stakeholders’ forum to steps towards ensuring the passage of the Animal Grazing and Cattle Ranch Establishment Law, 2020.
