Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted to the death of President Idriss Deby of Chad.
Recall that an Army Spokesperson had announced the death of the president on Tuesday, April 20.
Reacting to Debu’s death, President Buhari expressed deep pain. In a message by his media aides, Garba Shehu, he said that “the sudden and tragic death of President Idriss Deby of Chad on the front line, fighting against rebel soldiers, came as a rude shock to him.
President Buhari said late Deby supported Nigerian immensely in the anti-terrorism fight.
In a tone of regret, President Buhari said: “I’m deeply shocked and devastated by the sudden death of Idriss Deby on the battlefront to defend the sovereignty of his country.”
The president added that as an enthusiastic friend of Nigeria, late Deby was very instrumental in the joint battle against the Boko Haram terrorists. He went ahead to state that “the death of Deby will surely create a huge vacuum in the efforts to jointly confront the Boko Haram terrorists and the Islamic State West Africa Province.”
Deby reportedly died of injuries suffered on the frontline. His death came a day after he won a sixth term in office as the country’s president.
