Tunde Fowler was notable for his excellence as the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
Aside from being able to increase the revenue of the Federal Government, the man was also able to put Nigeria on the tax map of Africa.
On several occasions, he represented Nigeria in tax-related conferences in Africa, earning him the nomenclature, tax Czar.
However, amidst the positive achievement were allegations bandied about him, chief of which is the alleged diversion of N5 billion and his allowing gaps in the auditing of the agency’s accounts.
The dark-hued man was also accused of other financial impropriety during his headship of the revenue agency.
Though he was invited and interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), as the anti-corruption agency tried to unravel the mystery and true picture of Fowler’s tenure at FIRS, nothing concrete appears to have been exposed two years into the investigation.
This situation has thus seen questions about the possibility of Fowler being untouchable.
