The popular Yoruba adage which says that the Dog which does not heed the whistle of the hunter goes astray best describe the position Senator Olanrewaju Ganiyu Solomon currently finds himself.
Prior to the Lagos state All Progressive Congress (APC), gubernatorial primaries GOS as Senator Solomon is fondly called was critical and vocal about who emerged the party’s candidate, and the process with which the person emerged.
In the heat of electioneering he was severally quoted antagonizing his party leaders specifically Senator Bola Tinubu, and insisting he would not step down for anybody as against the popular dictates of his followers and advisers who believed he ought to have returned to the Senate rather than gamble certainty for uncertainty.
As the election drew nearer GOS seemed to be seeing a picture different from that of his followers and advisers despite the fact that the handwriting was on the wall for all to see.
Unlike GOS, Senator Gbenga Ashafa quickly made a bold statement when he withdrew from the gubernatorial race opting to return to the Senate.
Eventually, GOS and his other aspirants lost the primary election to Akinwunmi Ambode who they had criticized as lacking in leadership skills and experience even though he was more learned.
With the loss to Ambode, GOS’s career as a politician sunk deeper into abyss, as his relevance began to dwindle. The last time any major statement was heard from him was when all the aspirants in the party gathered together to convince Ambode that they were behind him.
As it is, GOS story can simply be described as a tale of been penny wise pound foolish.
