Funmilayo Banire, wife of the National Legal Adviser of All Progressive Congress (APC), has a unique passion essentially to fight against Rhesus factor.
Mrs. Banire recently staged the 6th edition of “Walk For Life”, an awareness campaign to sensitize the populace about the causes and prevention of stillbirth among pregnant women.
Put together by her non-governmental organisation (NGO), Rhesus Solution Initiative, the event saw people walking from Isheri-Oloofin Roundabout in Idimu area of Lagos State to Ikotun-Igando to be enlightened about the Rhesus factor.
According to Mrs. Banire, the founder of the NGO, Rhesus negative women, more often than not lose their pregnancies or have stillbirth. She however, advocated that Rhesus negative women must ensure that they takes anti-D or Rhogam injection when their pregnancy reaches seven months and before three days after her childbirth so as to prevent stillbirth.
Faces at the event, included names such as Lagos House of Assembly member, Hon. AbdulSobur Olawale Olayiwola; former Lagos State Commissioner of Education, Olayinka Oladunjoye; former House of Assembly member, Hon. Abdulbaq Balogun; Aremo Michael Ikufisile; Hon. Jide Bello; former Mosan-Okunola LCDA chairman, Hon. Rasheed Mafe; his counterpart in Agege local government, Hon. AbdulKareem Ayodeji and others.
