Justice A.O Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi has sentenced popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye also known as Bobrisky to 6-month jail term.
The judge stated that the sentence is without an option of fine.
Recall that Bobrisky was arrested and arraigned on charges of abusing the legal tender by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A statement released on EFCC”s X handle on Thursday said that it had invited the 31-year-old in response to a video that surfaced online showing her spray-painting and flaunting wads of brand-new Naira notes at the March 24, 2024, Film One Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos, for the premiere of the film Ajakaju, which was produced by Nollywood actress and producer Eniola Ajao.
According to EFCC, investigation also revealed that he had committed the alleged offence at some other event centres and parties at different times.
Following the invitation by the Commission, he arrived at the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC on the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2024, for interrogation and volunteered his statements.
The social media celebrity was arraigned on Friday, April 5, however, Justice Awogboro deferred judgment in the matter to Tuesday, April 9, 2024, after Bobrisky pleaded guilty.
The judge ordered that the convict be remanded in EFCC custody pending sentence.
Meanwhile, the defendant’s counsel, Ayo Olumofin, had been quoted saying; “There is no striking out. She pleaded guilty. The court is the master of the court. So there is nothing we can do about the adjournment. But we cited the relevant section to the honourable court that Idris is a first offender and by the relevant provisions of the Criminal Justice Act, the court will not impose maximum punishment on her.”
