The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has canceled the result of the gubernatorial election earlier announced in Adamawa State today Sunday, April 13.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Hudu Yunusa had earlier declared Senator Aisha Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, as the winner of the governorship election in the state.
Yunusa walked into the collation center and summarily declared Binani the winner of the keenly contested election.
However, his declaration was protested by other party members who believed it was fraudulent.
However, in it’s reaction posted on its Twitter handle, INEC said the state election is not yet concluded.
“The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded. The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect. Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended.”
The electoral body also summoned the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Barrister Yunusa over the controversial declaration.
