The story of Sijibomi Ogundele, boss of Sujimoto Construction Nigeria Limited has always been one of awe, disbelieve and inspiration.
A corner boy, a wheelbarrow pusher from the slum of Lagos with no solid financial background, Ogundele suddenly rose like a phenix, becoming the King of structural masterpieces including LeonardobySujimoto, a groundbreaking $225 million architectural masterpiece.
With the rise in his profile also came an amazing increase in the value of his worth and influence. Ogundele, born in 1981 became an inspirational story, his lifestyle became a reference point for everything good. Simply put, he became the fantasy of many, the dream they could only pray and hope to achieve someday.
But all of that was until recently when his supposed perfect image was tainted by an alleged fraud.
Punch Newspapers report that the glamorous real estate mogul was recently detained at the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) in Abuja over alleged fraud.
Though subsequently released on bail, Ogundele was invited by the police for questioning following a petition from human rights lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi accusing him of allegedly swindling a staggering $325,000 from one Kabiru Ibrahim.
The allegations date back to November 5, 2020, when Ogundele allegedly convinced Ibrahim to make a down payment for what was promised to be a luxurious three-bedroom flat in the upscale Leonardo estate—a property that was supposedly worth $750,000!
In the petition, Olajengbesi detailed how Ogundele lured his client with flashy brochures and enticing offers. “Mr. Sijibomi Ogundele approached our client and fraudulently represented himself and the company,” the document states. “He offered to sell one unit of a three bedroom flat at the estate, claiming that if our client paid 50% upfront, the total price would be reduced to $650,000!”
According to Olajengbesi, Ibrahim took the bait and handed over a jaw-dropping $325,000, which was acknowledged by Sujimoto Construction Limited. However, as time passed, Ibrahim was left in the dark—no construction updates, no property in sight, and certainly no sign of his investment!
The allegation which initially didn’t align with the personality of Ogundele was confirmed by police spokesperson DSP Funmi Eguaoje. However, Ogundele’s awyer, Kenny Umenyi, refused to comment either via phone of text.
