The Ogun State Police Command has clarified speculations surrounding arms and ammunition handed over to it by the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun a day before the expiration of his tenure in office.

Speaking on the issue, the command on Thursday, June 27, cleared the air on the controversy surrounding the ammunitions.

Online platform, Premium Times in a report had accused Amosun of secretly acquiring arms for the 2019 election and surrendering 1,000 AK47 riffles and 4000 amunitions to the police a day to the end of his administration.

The report, queried the Inspector General of Police for not arresting the Senator representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly during a meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.

Criticizing Premium Times for the report, the command questioned it’s ethics of journalism.

In a statement made available to journalists by the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi lashed at the online platform for allegedly violating the ethics of journalism by rushing to the press.

In a statement released by Rotimi Durojaiye, the spokesperson of the immediate past governor stated that the arms were acquired legitimately with approval from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) under President Goodluck Jonathan.
