A former Southwest Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George has been accused of allegedly attempting to forcefully grab a parcel of land belonging to a Private Citizen in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, Nigeria.
Chief George, was said to have sent a letter through one Gbubemi Madedor, lawyer to him, claiming the ownership of the landed property.
When our Reporter visited the scene, we observed that a fence had been erected at the entrance of the parcel of land to prevent access into the property located at 10, Wole Olateju, Lekki Phase 1.
While speaking with journalists, Mrs. Olanrewaju Dosunmu-Fashola who claimed rightful ownership of the land and makeshift restaurant on it said while she was resuming for business activities for the day, she discovered that a fence had been erected at the entrance to prevent her and customers entry into the premises.
In an attempt to gain access into the restaurant, some hoodlums attacked her from behind and manhandled her until her husband cautioned them and rescued her from the fierce looking men.
Speaking further, Dosunmu-Fashola said the land was on lease from the initial owner, a legal practitioner, Chief David Nwabueze, but was purchased outrightly about five years ago though she had operated on it for almost 10 years.
Dosunmu-Fashola clarified that she had all the documents of the land including the Deeds of Transfer and other papers as the true owner of the parcel of land.
Thus, she called on the Lagos State government and security agents to come to her aid as the PDP chieftain lawlessness persists.
Meanwhile, on the 17th of July, 2020 Probitas Partners Solicitor wrote a letter of ‘Notice of owners intention to apply to recover possession-water front property at 10 Wole Olateju Street, Lekki Lagos ” which the content being to take possession of the building in 7days of receiving the letter (18th July, 2020 to expired on the 31th July, 2020). While the solicitor of Mrs Lanre Dosumu, Ronke Adekoya &Co replied Chief George’s solicitor that their clients had never been in contractual relationship or agreement with your client hence your notice remains a surprise. Our client has thus been renewing her pass with the relevant authority yearly. Various receipts and agreements to this effect are in our custody and we shall not hesitate to rely on it in our evidence if and when this matter is filed in court of law.
A security guard at the Restaurant, Anudarju Bulus alleged that armed mobile policemen deployed to the scene by Chief George attacked and severally abused him. A Chef simply identified as Mojisola said about five policemen and thugs stormed the restaurant with dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and clubs to eject them while preparing meals for their clients. An unidentified policeman was said to have fired several shots into the air to scare the workers.
At at the time of filing in this report, efforts to speak with Chief George and his associates proved abortive as no one was ready to make comment on the matter.
