Politics Breaking News: INEC Declares Buhari Winner Of 2019 Presidential Election Published 6 years ago on February 27, 2019 By The Octopus News Admin President Muhammadu Buhari has been declared winner of the Saturday, February 23, presidential election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared him winner in the early hours of Wednesday, February 27. Contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Atiku polled 11,262,978 to lose the election with a margin of 3,928,869 votes. Buhari won in 19 states, while Atiku emerged victorious in 17 states and the federal capital territory (FCT). INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, announced that a certificate of return will be issued to Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the International Conference Centre (ICC). Meanwhile, the PDP has rejected the result, citing irregularities.
