Senator Bola Tinubu has won the Presidential Primary of the All ProgressiveCongress (APC).
The national leader of the APC who clinched the ticket in the primary election that was held on Tuesday, June 7, will now represent his party in the 2023 general election.
Tinubu garnered 1,271 votes to win the election, defeating the immediate past Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Amaechi beat Osinbajo to the third position, having scored 316 votes, against the Vice President’s 235 votes.
Also part of the primary election were Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Ahmed Rufai, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Jack Rich, Governor Ben Ayade, Governor David Umahi, Senator Ahmed Yarima, Dr Ahmed Lawan, Osinbajo, Amaechi, Governor Yahaya Bello, and Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.
Close to the voting period, nine other contestants stepped down, with eight of them asking their supporters to vote for Tinubu, while one supported Osinbajo.
Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Robert Boroffice, Ken Nnamani, Ibikunle Amosun, Dimeji Bankole, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi and Godswill Akpabio, all supported Tinubu.
Recall that 75-year-old Atiku Abubakar emerged as the flagbearer of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), last week.
The presidential election has been slated for February 25, 2023.
