Court Grants Seun Kuti Bail In Assault Case

Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, has been granted bail by the Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos State.
The singer was granted bail on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023.
Efforts by the police to detain Kuti for 21 days for allegedly assaulting a police officer was denied by the court.
The Police prosecutor, S. A. Adebese had prayed that the court remand the defendant for 21 days. He said that the three weeks would allow the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prepare legal advice.
However, the singer’s counsel, Femi Falana (SAN) opposed the plea in his argument.
Falana begged the court not to remand his client. He stated that he was not aware of an application to that effect.
