A 30-year-old man, Kingsley Solomon, has been remanded at the correctional centre in Okaka.

Solomon was remanded following an order by a Magistrate Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

He was alleged of stealing a two-month-old baby at Azikoro Town in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Arraigned by the Bayelsa State Police Command before Magistrate Sarah B.I Avoh on two-count charge of assault and child stealing, the prosecution alleged that on June 23, 2023, on IYC Road, Azikoro, Solomon gave one Joy Lucky a punch on the left side of her eyes with the intent to steal her child and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 282 of the Criminal Code of Bayelsa State 2006.

The prosecution further told the court that Solomon on June 24, 2023, on IYC Road, Azikoro, stole a baby, Success Alfred, aged two months, the baby of Joy Lucky and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 298 (a) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C14, of Bayelsa State 2006.

The First Information Report (FIR) further revealed that Solomon who claimed to have had an affair with Joy during her early pregnancy in a brothel was not the rightful father of Success Alfred.

Solomon, who pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of assault and baby theft was handed a 15-day remand by Magistrate Sarah B.I. Avoh.

Recall that the Bayelsa State Police Command, through Eunice Nnachi of the Women Advocacy Foundation (ENWAF), arrested Solomon following a reported assault on Lucky and theft of baby Success.
