Medical doctors at the forefront of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic can be assured of receiving their hazard allowance for the month of June.
This assurance came from the federal government through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.
Ngige gave the assurance following a meeting with the leadership of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Thursday, August 6.
Charles Akpan, the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry also reiterated the pledge, adding that despite the fall in revenues, doctors will have the last smile.
The minister revealed that the federal government has put all measures in place to ensure that health personnel fighting the Covid-19 pandemic are paid their allowance.
Ngige said teaching hospitals and medical centres in the country have been directed to submit the list of names of their personnel who had some hitches in receiving their payments. He said their names will be forwarded to the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
It would be recalled that despite the increase in the cases of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the country, the Nigerian doctors announced a nationwide strike. The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of Nigeria announced that they commenced a nationwide “indefinite strike” on the morning of Monday, June 15, hours after COVID-19 cases in the country exceeded 16,000 with over 400 deaths.
President of the ARD, Roland Aigbovo, confirmed this but did not give further details.
