The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 298 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.
The latest figure was revealed in a late-night tweet on Sunday, August 16.
According to the health agency, the new infections were reported in 16 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the data from NCDC, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria is close to 50,000.
Data released by the NCDC revealed that Plateau State recorded the highest number of new cases followed by Kaduna.
Below are the states that recorded new cases of COVID-19:
1. Plateau – 108
2. Kaduna – 49
3. Lagos – 47
4. Ogun – 18
5. Osun – 17
6. FCT – 15
7. Ondo – 14
8. Edo – 8
9. Oyo – 6
10. Akwa Ibom – 4
11. Cross River – 4
12. Borno – 3
13. Ekiti – 2
14. Bauchi – 1
15. Kano – 1
16. Rivers – 1
According to the NCDC, the total number of confirmed cases now stands at 49,068, with 36,497 patients discharged and 975 deaths.
Though the total number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the country is near the 50,000 mark, Nigeria has continued to witness more recoveries.
