There are speculations of a divide inside the jihadist groups loyal to Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
According to a report by AFP, the divide started as a result of differences arising from a money dispute.
However, it has now spiraled into clashes that have left several fighters killed.
A report has it that sharing formular of incomes generated by taxing cattle herders and fishermen in areas the jihadists control around Lake Chad sparked the trouble.
Trouble started in the village of Blantougou in Niger and spiraled into fighting before eventually spilling over the border into Nigeria pitting those loyal to Tax Chief Umar Leni against two other factions, a source said.
Recall that ISWAP broke away from Boko Haram in 2016 due to its rejection of indiscriminate attacks on civilians.
In 2018, the operations of the IS-affiliate witnessed a surge with increased attacks against military targets following its takeover by more hardline fighters who took over the reins of affairs from its leader, executing his deputy.
