International DJ, DJ Dozzy Ross, has advised Nigerian disc jockey seeking success to be as competitive as musicians, adding that it is time to stop allowing them to take all of the shine.
The Miami, America-based DJ revealed this in a chat with us.
According to him, “Long gone are the days where DJs are just DJs, we are artistes. DJs are the heart of entertainment; we must run the shows like the artistes. Our music controls the crowd. A musician can only perform for one hour max before people get bored with him. But a real and good DJ knows when to switch the tempo. When I’m on the wheel I’m the artist. I tell stories with the songs I play. I’m very diverse. Not all DJs can do that. You have to understand the crowd and play what they want to hear and not what the DJ like. Once you establish yourself, you can take people on a musical journey. You automatically become a brand and people want to come to your shows and listen.”
Trained in Atlanta by DJ D Cas of Connections DJs, DJ Dozzy Ross is indeed a professional.
He is not only active on the wheels of steel, as he has collaborated with top Nigerian acts including Skales, Runtown, and Ball Greezy. He has also worked with the likes of Davido, Olamide, Tekno, Wizkid, Runtown, Skales, Timaya, Psquare, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Wale and Akon to name a few.
With his song titled ‘Rihanna Body’ featuring Tekno and Cap 1, an American rapper signed to 2 Chains receiving reviews, the time is just right for him to drop his six-track EP with videos to complement.
