Tragedy struck in Ekiti State on Saturday, November 21, as drunk police officers shot two people.
The incident happened in a hotel in Ado, the capital of the state.
The policemen were reported to have escorted a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) to the hotel when they started misbehaving under the influence of alcohol.
During the fracas, one fun seeker was shot and killed, while another was injured.
The drunken policemen allegedly threatened to kill some of the guests and to carry out their threats, they were reported to have opened fire all of a sudden and in the process, stray bullet hit two persons in the chest.
The victims were rushed to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti where one was pronounced dead. The other was subsequently transferred to Afe Babalola University, Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti for intensive care.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sunday Abutu confirmed the incident, saying the policemen fingered in the shooting had been arrested and detained at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti. However, he added that the officers involved were not from the Ekiti Police Command.
