The state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has suspended three senators and five House of Representatives members from the state.
The suspension is not isolated from alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension come hours after the state governor David Umahi officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),
Sources in the political circle of the state said that the suspension came as a surprise as the elected members who on Wednesday, November 18, vowed to remain in the party despite the defection of Governor Umahi to the APC.
The state PDP chairman, Barrister Onyekachi Nwebonyi, however, suspended the lawmakers who he accused of working against the party.
The three senators are Sam Egwu, a former governor of the state, Michael Ama Nnachi and Obinna Ogba.
The suspended House of Representatives members included: Chukwuma Nwanzunku, Sylvester Ogbaga, Livunus Makwe, Idu Igariwey, Victor Aleke and Chris Usulor.
The party further invited them to appear before its disciplinary committee to defend themselves over the allegations on Friday, November 20.
