The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has revealed plans to organise a special prayer session ahead of the state’s gubernatorial election.
The prayer would ensure a peaceful poll; he assured.
According to him, the Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers would be summoned for the important prayer.
The Benin monarch stated this when he played host to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki and some chieftains of his new party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in his palace in Benin.
He said God and his ancestors have been answering his prayers whenever he prayed and that the governorship poll will not be an exception.
The monarch also recalled how he prayed against Obaseki’s impeachment when the governor asked him to pray for him to be able to complete his tenure in office.
“I remembered when I visited governor Obaseki in his office, he asked me to pray for him to be able to complete his tenure in office and I did and today, he has not been impeached despite the ups and downs and I thank my God and my ancestors for answering my prayers,” the monarch said.
Oba Ewuare II reiterated that the palace is always non-partisan, adding that his concern is to pray for the emergence of a leader who has “the intention of providing good leadership for the people of the state.”
Reacting to the monarch, Governor Obaseki said he was at the palace to seek the monarch’s blessings before he continues with his campaign in the state.
