Socialite Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Achimugu was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency over allegations of money laundering and investment fraud.

In a statement shared by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on its social media handle, the agency urged anyone with useful information about Achimugu to contact the commission.

The statement read: “The public is hereby notified that Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the EFCC in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.”

In an earlier report, Premium Times had noted that documents exclusively obtained had confirmed that the businesswoman was being investigated by the EFCC.

While associates of Achimugu had promoted a false narrative that the EFCC was not probing her. Premium Times reported that Achimugu fled Nigeria after failing to honour an invitation by the EFCC.

The media house quoted EFCC insiders who revealed that Ms Achimugu was summoned to meet investigators on 5 March over alleged money laundering and a high-profile investment scam.

According to Premium Times, a letter from the EFCC to Aisha Achimugu dated 4 March and signed by Adebayo Adeniyi, EFCC’s acting zonal director in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was sent to Ms Achimugu’s residential address in Abuja.

“This commission is currently investigating a case in which the need to obtain certain clarification from you becomes imperative,” the letter reads.

“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to attend an interview with the undersigned through the Head of Investigation on Wednesday, 5th March 2025, by 10:00 hours prompt,” it added.

However, rather than reporting to the EFCC as requested by the agency, Achimugu travelled out of Nigeria, a trip investigators believe was hurriedly arranged to evade interrogation and arrest.

Following her discreet departure from the country, the agency obtained an arrest warrant preparatory to declaring her wanted.
