As the by-election to fill a vacant seat in the Lagos House of Assembly draws nearer, members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Eti-Osa constituency 1 have staged a peaceful protest to kick against imposition.
The protest was staged at the Ojomu, Agungi-Ajiran palace of Oba Tijani Akinloye Ojomu on Wednesday, August 23.
The protesters expressed the need for a free and fair by-election devoid of party imposition following speculations that some party leaders had being collecting money to help impose a candidate.
They also sought for continuity, as they besieged the party to allow Taofeek Ayinla Alimi the younger brother of late member of Lagos State House of Assembly to replace his late brother, late Hon. Kazeem Alimi.
Reacting to the protester, Oba Tijani Akinloye Ojomu, urged the protesters to maintain peace and order while he conveyed their request to the Eti-Osa party leaders.
Also speaking on the issue, Tope Bashir, revealed that what prompt the protest is the betrayal tendency that had been observed in most of the party leader. According to him, the vacant position was zoned to Eti-Osa East particularly Ward E where the late Alimi came from, but they were surprised to see that candidates of the party from every part of Eti-Osa including the former sole-Administration of Eti-Osa East were showing interest in filling the office. He urged the party leaders and its national leaders particularly Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene by ensuring free and fair primary within the vacant ward E.
Honourable Akeem Alimi representing Eti-Osa constituency 1, died two weeks after his 50th birthday.
