Olisa Metuh, a onetime spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been released from jail.
Metuh’s release from the Kuje correctional centre, Abuja follows a retrial ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction.
Recall that Metuh was sentenced to seven years in jail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on February 25, 2020, after being found guilty on charges of money laundering.
However, the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, December 16, nullified the jail sentence handed the former PDP spokesperson.
The court ruled that Metuh’s convictions were tainted with bias and must not be allowed to stand.
Meanwhile, former governor, Ayo Fayose has reacted to the release of Metuh from prison.
Fayose, shared photos of Metuh’s release on Thursday, December 24, showing the moment he regained his freedom.
The PDP chieftain marked his newfound freedom by taking photos at the entrance of the Kuje correction centre.
Fayose who commented on Metuh’s travails welcomed the PDP chieftain back to the society. The former governor said Justice Okon Abang who sentenced the politician to prison unjustly will one day reap what he sowed.
He said: Welcome back home Olisa Metuh, tough time don’t last… And to Justice Okon Abang, you will one day reap the rewards of the hardship and suffering your miscarriage of justice has made many Nigerians to go through.”
